Flight delay rights for passengers according to EU Regulation 261/04

EU Regulation 261/2004 (EC261) establishes clear passenger rights in cases of flight
delays, cancellations, and denied boarding. The regulation applies to flights departing
from EU airports and flights arriving in the EU when operated by an EU airline. Its main
purpose is to protect air travelers and hold airlines accountable for disruptions.
When a flight is delayed, EC261 may entitle passengers to assistance, reimbursement, or
financial compensation. The level of protection depends on the length of the delay,
flight distance, and cause of the disruption. Airlines are also required to inform
passengers of their rights under the regulation.
EC261 provides a strong legal framework that ensures passengers are treated fairly
when delays occur.
